Effect of the siphon control on the dynamic characteristics of a tipping bucket raingauge

This paper deals with the dynamic characteristics of the siphon which is usually applied to control the movement of rain water from the collecting funnel of a raingauge to the compartments of the tipping bucket. Since commercially available tipping bucket raingauges suffer from nonlinearity, a modified siphon has been tested. The dimensions of its elements have been designed to meet linearity requirements up to a certain maximum rainfall intensity. The raingauge achieved linearity for the chosen range of intensities. L'influence des caractéristiques dynamiques du siphon sur le fonctionnement d'un pluviomètre à augets basculeurs Résumé Ce papier traite de l'influence des caractéristiques dynamiques du siphon qui transfère l'eau de pluie recueillie par l'entonnoir d'un pluviomètre vers les augets basculeurs. Au laboratoire, une analyse des pluviomètres de type commercial montre que ces caractéristiques ne sont pas linéaires. Les dimensions du siphon étudié ont été modifiées afin d'obtenir des caractéristiques linéaires dans un domaine choisi de l'intensité de pluie.
